Age requirement

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher, to use this site or to buy coins or a membership. Some works on this site contain mature themes intended for adults only.

By using the site you confirm that you meet this requirement. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will close it.

Your account

An account is created automatically when you first open the site, and is tied to the browser you are using. There is no password. If you clear your browser storage or switch devices, you will not be able to reach that account again.

You are responsible for the activity that happens under your account.

Coins and membership

Coins are a prepaid balance used to unlock individual chapters. They have no cash value, are not transferable, and cannot be exchanged back into money except for an eligible refund described in our Refund Policy.

A membership gives you access to paid chapters for the duration of the period you bought. Membership and coins are separate: cancelling a membership does not remove coins you already hold.

Once a chapter has been unlocked with coins, it stays unlocked for your account. If a book is later removed from the catalogue, chapters you have already unlocked remain readable to you.

The one exception is a work that is blocked for content compliance or must be withdrawn outright. Access then ends for everyone, including chapters previously unlocked. Coins originally spent on chapters of a compliance-blocked work are returned to the same account.

Content

Protected works require permission from the rights holder. Original public-domain texts may be offered without exclusive copyright in those texts.

Copyright restrictions on copying, redistribution, resale and republication apply to protected works unless the rights holder permits the use. They do not create exclusive rights in public-domain texts. You may not use automated tools to download content from this service in bulk.

Classics identified as public domain are classified for the United States and retain their original author attribution. Their source references and the scope of our copyright notice are explained in Content sources and copyright.

Prohibited content

We do not publish, and you may not upload, share, request or use the service to distribute, any of the following:

(a) sexual content involving minors, or any content that sexualises anyone under 18;

(b) depictions of non-consensual sexual activity, sexual violence, or incest;

(c) content that promotes hate, violence, or discrimination against any person or group on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, disability or similar characteristics;

(d) content that promotes terrorism, or that provides instructions for making weapons, explosives or drugs;

(e) content that promotes or facilitates illegal activity, including the sale of illegal goods or services;

(f) content that infringes the copyright, trademark or other rights of any person;

(g) obscene material that is unlawful in the place where it is offered.

Works are reviewed against these rules before and after publication. A work found to breach them is withdrawn, and coins spent on its chapters are returned as described under “Coins and membership” above.

Acceptable use

Do not attempt to bypass payment, interfere with the service, or access other users’ accounts. We may suspend accounts that do.

Changes and availability

We may add, change or remove titles, and we may change prices. Price changes never apply retroactively to a period you have already paid for.

The service is provided as-is. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability.
